ves was born in Switzerland in 1967 and graduated from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He founded fuseproject, a San Francisco and NY based design studio, in 1999. His work is characterized by a humanistic approach to design; his aim is to create products not only compatible with a sustainable future, but also matched to human emotions and enabling self-expression.
Projects include the One Laptop Per Child XO Laptop, which provides low-cost, energy-efficient, high design laptops to children in developing nations. Currently over 2 million laptops have been distributed to over 34 countries. Other projects include: a partnership for Herman Miller to design the first personal controlled LED light, and an upcoming office chair, the Mission One Electric Motorcycle, which currently holds the land speed record. He also has designed products for Danese in Milano, Canal+ in Paris, MINI Cooper, as well as entrepreneurial partnerships with Jawbone, PACT, Mint and many others.His altruistic projects See Better to Learn Better for the Mexican government, and the NYC Condom project for the city of New York Department of Health.
Yves Béhar’s innovative designs have won more than 150 awards, and his work is included in permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco, the Pompidou Centre in Paris, the Munich Museum of Applied Art and the Art Institute of Chicago.
In 2009, he was one of the only two industrial designers invited to present at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
